Amalia Phillips - Christopher, IL Amalia Phillips, aka "Mely" but known to most as "Lola" (Filipino grandmother) 73, of Christopher, passed peacefully at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at her home with her children by her side. Mrs. Phillips was born on February 13, 1939 in Angeles City, Philippines the daughter of Agapito Pangilinan, Sr., Leoncia (Cuyugan) Pangilinan, and Herminia Romero. She married Clinton Phillips, Sr. on February 5, 1962 and he preceded her in death on December 29, 1999. Amalia was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church, Christopher. She loved fishing, gardening, cooking, playing cards, singing Karaoke, and spending time with her family. Surviving relatives include six children, Amie Summers, Orient, Clinton (Marilyn) Phillips, Jr., Collinsville, Carmen (Dwayne) Grogan, Christopher, Rick (Tassia) Phillips, West Frankfort, Mary Ann (Jerry, Jr.) Supancic, Benton, Charles (Katie) Phillips, Alamogordo, NM, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, four sisters, Ely (Alejandro) Tolentino, Bremerton, WA, Linda (Biyo) Pecson, Philippines, Teresita (Paul) Abate, Titusville, FL, Carmencita (Rene) Batalla, Philippines, one brother, Agapito "Sonny Boy" (Jane) Pangilinan, Jr., Philippines, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, Alyssa Phillips, and one sister, Nevelita Graley. Amalias wishes were to be cremated and her cremated remains given to each of her children. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton followed by a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. with Father Peter Balili officiating.
