Obituary

Andy Kasky, 96, of Herrin, formerly of Benton, passed away on June 16, 2015 at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Herrin, IL. He was born on July 9, 1918 to Charley and Anna (Jeromin) Kasky in Benton, IL and grew up in the Boneyard Woods. Mr. Kasky served in the United States Army during WWII as a Private First Class Surgical Technician. He served his country from France to Germany till the end of the war. He then had various jobs including a Seafarer in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes. He would travel for months on the Lakes and then return to the west for prospecting. Andy is survived locally by his, Brother, Bennie Kasky; nephew, John E. (Pamela) Kasky, two great-nephews, Michael (Kara Wilson) Kasky and David (Jessica Brown-Kasky) Kasky, two great-great nephews, Austin and Nathan Kasky, and one great-great niece, Victoria Kasky. He was preceded in death by parents, Charley and Anna Kasky, four brothers, John Kasky, Carl Kasky, Mike Kasky and Stanley Kasky, two sisters, Katherine Olshewski and Marie Kirt. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL, with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Benton American Legion Post 280, VFW Post 2671 and the National Guard Honors Team. Burial will be privately held at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Benton American Legion Post 280, Benton VFW Post 2671, Hospice of Southern Illinois or Shawnee Christian Nursing Center and will be accepted at the funeral home. The Kasky family would like to express their appreciation for the great support and care from the staff and management of Shawnee Christian Nursing Center and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
