Barbara "Barb" A. Bettress, 66, of Marion, formerly of Benton, passed away at 7:42 p.m., on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at her residence with her loving son by her side.
She was born on December 14, 1951, to Craig Gladson and Edna (Fishman) Cook in Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Chicago, IL. A daughter of an Army father, she attended many schools in the states and abroad. Barb married Bill "Billie" Bettress on June 7, 1969. Barbara worked at Freeman United Coal as a Compensation Secretary for several years, but the majority of her time was being a devoted wife, a nurturing mother and loving daughter.
Barb belonged to the Benton Boccie Ball Club and the Benton Country Club before the death of her loving husband Billie in June 2003. Everyone who knew Barbara knew how important her commitment to her family was.
Barbara is survived by her son, Allen "Nick" C. Bettress of Marion, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Craig Gladson and Edna (Fishman) Cook; a sister, Virginia Lee Wright; and her husband, Billie Bettress.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 20, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, 12:00 p.m., at the Pate Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
