Bertha M. Sullivan, 83, of West Frankfort, IL, died at 3:55 a.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Mrs. Sullivan was born December 15, 1930, in Thompsonville, IL, the daughter of Bert and Rena L. (Lance) Gunter. She married Howard C. Sullivan on June 8, 1947. She and her husband owned and operated the former Sullivan's Rend Lake Mobile Home Sales of Benton/West City, IL. Bertha was a wonderful wife, mother, and sister. She loved her family and to work with the church and its young people in teaching, Bible quizzing and cleaning the church. She was a member of the Apostolic Faith United Pentecostal Church of Johnston City, IL, and was a great prayer warrior and servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her four sons, Rev. Cecil E. (Carolyn) Sullivan of Lick Creek, IL, Melvin D. (Linda) Sullivan of West City, IL, Bert H. (Sheria) Sullivan of Benton, IL, and Marvin W. (Jennifer) Sullivan of Macedonia, IL, four daughters, Brenda B. (Dallas) Houseworth of Ewing, IL, Debra L. (Russell) King of West Frankfort, IL, Sandra L. (Russel) Bright of Mt. Zion, IL, Lora M. (Michael) Blades of West Frankfort, IL, 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Elsie Duckworth of Washington, IL, Dorothy Hamby Brimfield, six brothers, Deuard (Lorraine) Gunter of Edwards, IL, Paul (Judy) Gunter of Edwards, IL, Rev. Leon (Judy) Gunter of Sulfur, LA, Lloyd (Lenay) Gunter of Edwards, IL, Virgil Dean (Shirley) Gunter of Zeigler, IL, four sister-in-laws, Loretta Barr of Benton, IL, Mary (George) Rice of Dahlonega, GA, Harriett Johnson of Thompsonville, IL, Diane Gunter of West Peoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Leona Whetstone, brother, Leonard Gunter, and one great-grandson, Layton S. Bailey. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Johnston City, IL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Church in Johnston City, IL with the Rev. Cecil E. Sullivan, the Rev. Michael Glascoe, and the Rev. Brandon Houseworth officiating. Burial will follow funeral services in the Brady Cemetery, Akin, IL, with the Rev. Leon Gunter and the Rev. David Gunter officiating.
