Betty June Forby, 88, of Benton, IL, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL. Mrs. Forby was born on July 27, 1925, in Alto Pass, IL the daughter of Gus Elkins and Maude Ethel (Miller) Elkins. She married Paul E. Forby on August 27, 1943, and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2008. Betty worked as a nurse's aide at Franklin Hospital in Benton prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Steel City Baptist Church. She was also a housewife and a great mother and grandmother. Surviving relatives include three sons, Senator Gary Forby, Benton, IL, Mike Forby and wife Glenda, Benton, IL, Eric Forby and wife Amy, Fairview Heights, IL, eight grandchildren, Lisa Black and husband Mike, Benton, IL, Justin Forby, Benton, IL, Jeremy and Mackenzie Fleetwood, both of Benton, IL, Dustin Forby, Benton, IL, Melissa Cole and husband Kevin, Christopher, IL, Jake and Zack Forby, both of Belleville, IL, three great-grandchildren, Hannah Forby, Benton, IL, Trey and Chase Cole, both of Christopher, IL, one brother, Norman J. Elkins, Marion, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Forby was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, Melissa Forby, one sister, Myrtle Pender, and three brothers, Clifford, Fred, and Frank Elkins. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Zbinden officiating. Burial will be in the Cobden Cemetery, Cobden, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
