Obituary

Betty Rose Ehrhart - Lake Jackson, TX Betty Rose (Moore) Ehrhart, aged 72, passed away June 2, 2011, while visiting her daughter, Cindy and her family in Flagstaff, Arizona. She was born in Peoria, Illinois on October 14, 1938. Betty was the third daughter of Lorine Mildred Roberts and Madison Henry Moore. She is survived by her daughter Sabra Ehrhart and son-in-law John Baumgardner, Lake Jackson and Bellaire, TX, daughter Cindy Bramley and son-in-law Robert Bramley, Flagstaff, AZ, nine brothers and sisters, seven grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her siblings are JoAnn Gray, Murphysboro, IL, Marge McCarty, Logan, IL, Lyle and Pat Moore, Benton, IL, Henry and Linda Moore, Benton, IL, Michael and Diane Smith, Westfield, IN, Ernest and Karen Jamerson, Uhrichsville, OH, Ed and Nancy Jamerson, Benton, IL, Mary and Kenneth "Shorty" Craig, Akin, IL, Don and Cheri Jamerson, Freeport, IL, sister-in-law Alice (Moore) Barron, Johnston City, IL, and sister-in-law Phyllis Price (Jamerson) Travelstead, Marion, IL. She was preceded in death her husband, Major Donald Ray Ehrhart, second husband Norman Slaton, her parents, her step-father, Dale Jamerson, son-in-law Simon Hamper, and brothers-in-law Jim Gray and Ike McCarty. Betty married the love of her life, Donald Ray Ehrhart. Don was an officer in the Air Force and they traveled the world together. Some of the places they lived included Illinois, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, France, England, Germany, and Japan. While stationed in Germany, they adopted a baby girl, Cindy. Don was the first person in his family to go to college, graduating from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, a commission in the United States Air Force as an officer, and a profession as a fighter pilot. Betty attended college classes at LSU in Alexandria, Louisiana. Largely due to her determination, her daughters were the first people in her family to graduate from a university. She was a loving mother with a generous heart. Betty was widowed in 1969, when she and Don were stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. She chose to remain in Arizona, moved to Phoenix, and raised her young children at a time when single parent families were rare. She was a member of North Phoenix Baptist Church. Betty moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in the mid 1990s to live with her daughter Sabra. She often worked as an in-home caregiver for clients in Houston and the gulf coast area until her daughter and son-in-law adopted four children. Then she "retired" to lovingly and selflessly help raise them. Betty never met a stranger. She often stopped her car to help stranded motorists - men and women, including changing their flat tires. She loved driving, Bingo, Bridge, and Bowling. She loved her grandchildren and taught them and their friends how to play poker. Many non-relatives called her "Aunt Betty" or "Gma". She loved music - especially country, southern gospel, and Elvis. She also loved flowers, taking care of plants, going to yard sales, and all things Betty Boop. She was known in later years to many as "Ms. Boop". The family would like to express thanks to God, the USAF and the many medical caregivers who gave her 52 more years than expected. Thanks especially to her caregivers in later life, especially Dr. Kattegummula and many wonderful EMTs who saved her life numerous times, Brazosport Memorial Hospital, Bethany Home Healthcare (Lake Jackson, TX), The Gathering Place (a wonderful, fun, interfaith sponsored Alzheimer' support group in Lake Jackson, TX area), Julie Norton, Carriage Inn, Plantation Villas, and Cypress Woods. Most of all we will miss her sense of fun, overflowing generosity, and loving heart. Please donate to the national or your local Alzheimer' association (www.alz.org), The Gathering Place (www.gatheringplacecaregivers.org) or buy a friend or loved one a flower. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL.
