Obituary

Calvin Lee Sinks - Benton, IL Calvin Lee Sinks, 78, of Benton, IL, died at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Herrin Hospital. Mr. Sinks was born on September 6, 1933 in Harco, IL the son of Glen Sinks and Mary (Kendell) Sinks. He married the former Naomi Sue Tapp on January 2, 1958 and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2008. Calvin was a retired U.S Navy veteran. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, two years in the U.S. Air Force, and eighteen years in the U.S. Navy which included the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Akin Masonic Lodge #749 in Thompsonville, IL and enjoyed fishing and attending meetings at the Masonic Lodge. Surviving relatives include and five children, Nonie and Ed Dennison, Ridgway, IL, Diana Barnett, Zeigler, IL, J.T. and Naomi Sinks, Clarksville, TN, Phillip Sinks, Weldon, IL, Karen and Jamie Moore, Pittsburg, IL, daughter-in-law, Missy Sinks, Benton, IL, special daughter, Rose Grunert, West Frankfort, IL, twenty-two grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Glen (Donna) Sinks, Alton, IL, Fred (Carolyn) Sinks, Augusta, GA, one sister, Jeanine Price, Uniontown, KY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Sinks was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, C. Lee Sinks, II, one grandson, Jeff Lewis, three brothers, Phillip, George, and John Sinks and one sister, Mary Doerner. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL. Military rites will be performed at 4:00 p.m. by the U.S. Navy Honor Squad, Benton American Legion and V.F.W. Masonic rites will be performed at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Per Calvin' request there will be no other services and his body will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
