Charles E. Puckett, 81, of Thompsonville, passed away at 6:55 p.m., on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL.
Mr. Puckett was born on June 2, 1934, to Eugene and Monette (Hayes) Puckett in Hamilton County. Charles was a Graduate of Thompsonville High School and a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. On September 15, 1956, he married the former Arlene Cook. Charles previously worked for the Ford Motor Company as a Production Scheduler in Chicago Heights, IL, he then moved back to Akin and worked out of the Union Hall. Charles then had the opportunity to work for the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles as a Drivers License Examiner. He then went to work for the Illinois Department Of Transportation and would retire in September 2001.
Charles was a member of the Akin Masonic Lodge, Thompsonville, IL, and attended Plaster Grove Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Charles loved Ford Mustangs. He had a hobby of restoring cars and was very proud of his accomplishment of his 1966 show Ford Mustang. Charles enjoyed quail, duck and goose hunting at Thompsonville Lake as well as fishing and training bird dogs.
Charles is survived by his loving spouse of 59 years Arlene Puckett; children, Kenny Puckett and wife Peggy of Galatia, IL, Diane Wissinger and husband Alec of Thompsonville, IL, Bridget Derr and husband Kenny of Kathleen, GA; Six Grandchildren, Beth Ann Leek and husband Kelly, Kevin Puckett and wife Karen, Alec Brent Wissinger and wife Olivia, Travis Wissinger and wife Miranda, Britney Derr, Landon Derr; Eight Great-Grandchildren, Demetri, Alexis, Hannah, Kevin Jr., Joseph, Kirby, Kaelyn, Emmalyn; three sisters, Naomi Dial of Cave In Rock, IL, Marilyn Sudie Harris of West Frankfort, IL and Alice Prusaczyk of Plumfield, IL; a brother, Rodger Puckett of Johnston City, IL; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Puckett of Thompsonville, IL.
He was preceded in death by parents, Eugene and Monette Puckett; a sister, Verla Mae (Paris) Baker; two brothers, Norman Puckett and Vernal Puckett; two brother-in-laws, Dutch Paris and Bruce Harris.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 22, 2016, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Pate Funeral Home, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL., Masonic services will be held at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, 11:00 am at the Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL, with Pastor Roger Webb, officiating. Burial will take place in the Brady Cemetery following services with military rites by the Benton American Legion Post 280, VFW Post 2671 and the National Guard Honors Team.
