Clarence E. Johnson, 87, of Marion, IL, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was a retired State of Illinois Department of Conservation Forestry Technician. He was previously married to Rosalie (Crawford) Johnson. He was born on September 25, 1927, in Buncombe, IL, and is the son of William and Dimple (Webb) Johnson. Clarence was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the V.F.W. Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Surviving relatives include his children, Marilyn Schwartz and husband John, Rita Gilmore and husband John, and Clint Johnson and wife Angie; two brothers, Herschel Johnson and wife Mary Ann and Bryan Johnson and wife Maxine; two grandchildren, Kara Kobler and Jade Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Kiersten Kerley and Kolby Keyser and wife Cayla; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kensleigh Kerley. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Verla Casey and Ruth Webb. Cremation has been accorded per his wishes, and there will be no visitation. The family would like to extend a thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois for their care and compassion. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 23, at 1 p.m. at the Webb Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, IL.
