Darrell "Shag" KerleyThompsonville, IL Darrell "Shag" Kerley, 58, of Thompsonville, IL, died at 11:17 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Franklin Hospital, Benton, IL. Mr. Kerley was born on August 19, 1953 in Christopher, IL, the son of Billy Joe Kerley, Sr. and Vonda Lee (Perryman) Kerley. He married the former Kathy Watson on October 20, 1978 and she survives. Darrell was a retired coal miner. He worked as an electrician/repairman at Old Ben Coal Mine #26 at Sesser, IL and also Zeigler Mine #11 at Coulterville, IL. He was a member of the UMWA and loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, beekeeping, gardening, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving relatives include his wife, Kathy Kerley, Thompsonville, IL, a son, Christopher Kerley and wife Andrea, Johnston City, IL, a daughter, Amanda Biggs, Thompsonville, IL, two grandsons, Jack Frey and Greyson Biggs, both of Thompsonville, IL, two sisters, Jo Ann Grammer and husband Gene, Johnston City, IL, Glenna "Do" Taylor and husband John, West Frankfort, IL, one brother, Billy Joe Kerley, Jr. and wife Connie, West Frankfort, IL, nieces and nephews, Stacy, Lori, Amber, Aaron, Ethan, LeeAnn, great-niece and great-nephews, Alisha, Zack, Landon, Peyton, and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Kerley was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Orville Kerley, and a niece, Cassie Lee Taylor. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. James Kerley officiating. Burial will be in the Plasters Cemetery, Thompsonville, IL.
