David "Rabbit" Lee Rone, 74, of Thompsonville, passed away at 8:43 p.m., on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at his home in Thompsonville, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 23, 1946, to George and Dorothy (Short) Rone in Franklin County, IL. David worked as a Coal Miner for 35 years . He married Helen Mae Keller, and she survives.

Rabbit loved playing pool, car racing, hunting and camping. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Helen, one step-daughter, Sherry Wright; one step-son, Vallie Zettler; a sister, Tawana (Oscar) Dawn Rone-Shew; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Leslie and Dorothy May Rone and two brothers, Jerry Lynn Rone and Leslie Ray Rone.

Services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Pate Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Webb, officiating.

Following the funeral service, burial will take place in the Brady Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Brady Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
