Donald J. Cowan, 72, of Benton, passed away at 10:34 a.m., on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born on August 26, 1949, to James and Darlene (Brillhart) Cowan in Fort Scott, KS. On May 31, 1968, he married Kathie Wilson and she survives.

Donald served 26 years in the United States Air Force in the specialized field of intercontinental ballistic missiles. He was one of the youngest persons to achieve the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working in the yard, cooking, fishing and playing golf.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathie; his mother, Darlene J. Cowan; his daughter, Angela Dawson and her husband, Warren; his grandchildren, Keegan Dawson, Fallon Dawson and Erin Dawson; his sister, Diana Johnson and his sister-in-law, Linda Cowan.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Cowan and his brother, Richard Cowan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Per Donald's wishes, cremation will take place.
