Donald James Myers - Benton, IL Donald James Myers, 83, of Benton, IL, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Helia Healthcare, Benton, IL. Mr. Myers was born on December 4, 1928 in Coles County, IL the son of John W. Myers and Mary Jane (LaMasters) Myers. He married the former Betty Lou Irvin on March 21, 1950 and she survives. Don retired from the Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company where he had worked for thirty-two years and was a member of the I.B.E.W. He served his country as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Blockade and the Korean War and was awarded a purple heart and four bronze stars. Don enjoyed building and remodeling houses and playing stringed instruments, especially the guitar. He loved antiques and owned two antique shops with his wife Betty
