Edna Louise Lewis - Benton, IL Edna Louise Lewis, 90, of Benton, died at 9:40 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at Helia Healthcare in Benton. Mrs. Lewis was born on June 1, 1922 in West City, IL the daughter of George Washington Wertz and Sarah Etta (Bridges) Wertz. She married John Thomas Lewis on June 7, 1941 in Jackson, MO and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1990. Edna was a cook at several area restaurants including the Benton Cafe,, Kewpee Cafe,, and Coney Island restaurant. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Boneyard Boccie Club in Benton. Surviving relatives include four nieces, Ramona Louise Elders, Benton, Jane Myers, Benton, Josephine Dunn, Benton, and Shirley Jean Seals, Cleveland, OH. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Samuel H. Wertz, three sisters, Katherine Huffman, Sophia Braden and Lorraine Day, four nephews, Harry Wertz, James "Butch" Wertz, and Samuel W. Wertz, and John Emmett Kelley, and one niece, Carolyn (Wertz) Miller. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton with Pastor Mark Minor officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
