Edna Colleen Whaley - Benton, IL Edna Colleen Whaley, 86, of Benton, IL, died at 1:35 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at Herrin Hospital. Mrs. Whaley was born on March 23, 1925 in Herrin, IL the daughter of Thomas Mortimer and Ella (Swalls) Mortimer. She married Kenneth Whaley and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1999. Edna worked as a waitress at Engerts and the Benton Cafe, prior to her retirement. She was a member of the East Benton Baptist Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Benton. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lynnette Hunter and husband Fred, Benton, IL, Sherry Sullivan, Lake of Egypt, IL, six grandchildren, Jessica, Benjamin, and Aubrey Hunter, all of Benton, IL, Adrienne Lund, Streamwood, IL, Michael Lund, Lake of Egypt, IL, David Lund, Chicago, IL, one sister, Pauline Simmons, Benton, IL and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Evelyn Stines and Mildred Adams and one brother, Tom Mortimer. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Klassen officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
