Edward R. Bonthron, Jr., 89, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Heartland Regional Hospital, Marion, IL.

He was born on October 13, 1931 to Edward R. and Lillian (Rubenier-Oxy) Bonthron, Sr., in Chicago, IL. Edward was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He married the former Arlene L. Denk and she survives.

Edward loved cars, attending races, and hanging out at the shop. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas gambling and playing Bingo.

Mr. Bonthron is survived by his loving spouse of 66 years Arlene Bonthron; one son, Raymond "Ray" Bonthron and wife "Rikki"; two daughters, Mary Kozenczak and husband Michael and Linda Caldwell and husband Thomas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Patrick Gleason; and a half brother, Ignacio "Joe" Pena and wife Leona; one niece and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward R. and Lillian Bonthron, Sr; a daughter, Susan Gleason; and one great grandson, Jason Gleason.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Services will be private.
