Frances Muriel
Clark
October 23, 1920 – March 17, 2020
Frances Muriel Clark was born on October 23, 1920, and past to her rest on March 17, 2020. Frances was the second of four children born to Ross and Dewie Williams. She was born in their farmhouse home five miles west of Fairmont, Nebraska. She was the granddaughter of the late George Arthur Williams, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska from 1925-1931. She was also an 11 th direct descendant of John and Priscilla Mullins who came over on the Mayflower in 1620.
Frances' earliest memory was standing on her tiptoes, peering over the edge of a little black baby carriage at her younger brother Kenneth. A few years later, Frances joined her sister Ruth and the neighborhood children on the half mile walk to and from the little country school. In 1935, when she was 15, her family moved from Nebraska to escape the Dust Bowl. They settled in the Missouri Ozarks near Mansfield, where she attended Mansfield High School and graduated. She was raised in a Seventh-day Adventist home and was baptized at the age of 16.
Her first job was in Cabool, Missouri as a nanny for two small children, and from there she took several childcare jobs in Springfield. Later her family moved to Denver, Colorado where they all worked in the Porter Sanitarium, and from there she was able to find another childcare job.
During a visit to Lincoln, Nebraska to visit her cousin Alice Saunders, Alice introduced her to Charles Clark, a hired man who worked for Alice's father. They were married December 7, 1947. They made their home in the sand hills of Nebraska where he worked for Charlie's father for two years. On September 4, 1947, they had their first child, Ross Alan. After the notorious blizzard of January 1949, they moved to Southern Missouri. Their 2 nd son Rodney Charles was born on February 11, 1951, followed by the twins, Pamela Joan and Barbara Elaine on August 10, 1952. Four years later Frances applied for foster care. Their first children were a family of four. Over the years they cared for around 40 children in their home. On May 3, 1961, Tamara Lynn joined the family. Several years later, Frances' heart for children led them to adopt five children, Melissa, David, Kim, Jody and Jonathan. After 27 years in Missouri, Charlie inherited the family farm in Nebraska in 1976, they moved their family back to Nebraska, to finish raising their 2 nd family. For 22 years they farmed the Nebraska soil, but passed the farming over to their sons, Charlie and Frances followed their daughter, Tammy to Southern Illinois in 1998. Frances' desire to live out the remainder of her life in the home that Charlie built in Illinois was fulfilled with the help of a-number-of live-in caregivers and helpers who have helped to see her wish fulfilled.
Frances is survived by her brother, Gale Williams of Springfield, Missouri, her 10 children, 20 grandchildren, over 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charlie, her brother, Kenneth, who was killed in World War II on July 27, 1944, her sister, Ruth and two infant grandsons, Eric and John. Frances now rests until the voice of the Life-giver calls her forth from her grave to His eternal reward. Frances so looked forward to seeing Jesus, being rejoined to her husband and others that she has lost in death, as well as knowing that all her children and grandchildren will be ready for the Second Coming.
Services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, and will be privately held.
