Fred R. Gulley - Benton, IL Fred R. Gulley, 85, of Benton, IL, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL. Mr. Gulley was born on February 15, 1926 in Benton, IL the son of Fred Gulley and Allie Lossie (Hutchcraft) Gulley. He married the former Elizabeth Martin on April 16, 1955 and she survives. Fred and Elizabeth celebrated 56 years of marriage together. Fred worked for his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Louis and Elizabeth Martin at Martins Paints and Wallpaper on the Benton Public Square. He continued in the picture framing business opening Freds Frame Shop which he operated until his retirement. This earned him the nickname "Fred the Framer" by his friend Ricky Nix. He served his country as a World War II U.S. Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed his model trains, planes, and boats and was a ham radio operator. He also enjoyed playing the drums and several computer games including flight simulator. Fred enjoyed walking his dogs Pepper and Sparky around the neighborhood. Surviving relatives include his wife Elizabeth Gulley, Benton, IL, one brother, Gene and wife Stella Gulley, Benton, IL, one niece, Robyn Gulley, West Frankfort, IL, and one nephew, Steve Gulley, Logan, IL. Mr. Gulley was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Scott Gulley. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Klassen officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL with military rites performed by the Benton American Legion and V.F.W.
