George (Buddy) Osteen - Benton, IL George (Buddy) Osteen, 80, of Benton, IL, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion, IL. Mr. Osteen was born on March 9, 1930 in Thompsonville, IL, the son of James Noble Osteen and Nora (Serles) Osteen. He married the former Mary F. Plasters on November 21, 1947 and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2007. George was a retired farmer and carpenter, and previously worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, IL for 14 years. He was a member of the Thompsonville Masonic Lodge and the Carpenters Union. He was a member and deacon at the Union Freewill Baptist Church, Thompsonville, IL. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with his family. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Diana Sue Todd and husband Joe, Thompsonville, IL, Rita Kay Lentz and husband Fran, Ewing, IL, eight grandchildren, Stacey Jo (Sam) Sweet, Thompsonville, IL, Tobey Dale (Jeff) Crisp, Thompsonville, IL, April Dawn (Matthew) Harmon, Ewing, IL, Lisa Marie (Chris) Funkhouser, Benton, IL, Rebecca Leigh (Randy) Walker, Ewing, IL, Heather Leigh (Steve) Swetz, Zeigler, IL, Jay Bernard (Emily) Lentz, Ewing, IL, Dana Marie (Levi) Wampler, Murphysboro, IL, thirteen great-grandchildren, Sammuel Sweet, Tayler Sweet, Brooke Sweet, Bailey Crisp, Chase Crisp, Gage Harmon, Zane Harmon, Jasmine Walker, Gracie Walker, Xander Walker, Hadleigh Swetz, Lilyann Lentz, two brothers, Robbie (Betty) Osteen, Dallas, TX, James (Barb) Osteen, Thompsonville, IL, two sisters, Betty Markum, Bettendorf, IA, Lucille Osteen, Thompsonville, IL, and several nieces and nephews and his very special lovely lady Louise Carter, West Frankfort, IL. He was looking forward to the birth of two more great-grandchildren, Elijah Wampler and Baby Funkhouser. Mr. Osteen was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Plaster Cemetery, Thompsonville, IL.
