George Thomas Workman, 22, of Benton, Illinois, died at 6:35 am on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana from complications of an auto accident. George was born on February 11, 1992 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Steven L. Workman and Stacia A. (Henrick) Workman. George was an amazing person and cherished by all who knew him. He had a passion for music and shared his enthusiasm and talent with the world around him. George was a gifted singer, song writer, performer, actor, musician, and friend to all. Always with a smile to share. A student at Rend Lake College, he loved participating in the theatre & music programs. George was involved in so many activities in his community: marching band, scholar bowl team, national honor society, speech team, jazz band, choir, thespians club, Southern Illinois Earth Science Club, a guitar player and singer in a rock band, just to name a few. He was a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church of Benton, Illinois. Surviving relatives include his parents, two sisters, Virginia (Nathan West) Workman and Melissa Workman, his maternal grandfather, Francis (Pat) Henrick, aunts and uncles, Janice Langford, Nelson Workman Jr., John (Denise) Workman, David (Stephanie) Henrick, along with many cousins and friends. Mr. Workman was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Workman, paternal grandparents, Joyce and Nelson Workman, Shirley (Kenneth) Wear, and his uncle, Jeffrey Henrick. The visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton, Illinois. Funeral services we will celebrate a joyful life lived 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th at Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory with the Reverend Shane Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow services at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rend Lake College Music & Theatre Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
