Guy "Pappy" Leon Sims, Sr., 78, of Benton, IL, died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Benton Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Benton, IL. Mr. Sims was born on January 2, 1936 in Wheatfield, IN the son of Glen H. Sims and Bessie (Doud) Sims. He married the former Cecil L. Good on December 9, 1978 and she survives. Mr. Sims was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 234 in Du Quoin, IL, the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry, an Ainad Shriner, the American Legion and V.F.W. Benton, IL, and Fraternal order of Eagles, Benton, IL. Guy attended Steele City Baptist Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Cecil L. Sims, children, Patty Merrick and husband Kenneth, Rick Sims and wife Debbie, Guy Sims, Jr. and wife Julie and Kim Sims, step-children, Marsha Grady, Theresa Twogood and husband Rusty, Peggy Wakefield and husband Mike, Linda Gower, brothers and sisters, David Sims and wife Barbara, Raymond Sims and wife Kathy, Carolyn Hoogeweg and husband Jeorge, Dawn Sims and Sharon Sims. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents, a stepdaughter, Lisa Seals, two brothers, Glen and Gene Sims and a sister Oakley Sims.
