Harold Lawrence Kehl, 63, of Benton, IL, formerly of Belleville and New Athens, IL, died at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday, December 24, 2014, surrounded by his family at his residence. Mr. Kehl was born on June 13, 1951 in Belleville, IL the son of Harold W. and Ludwina (Imming) Kehl. He married the former Janet Lynn Cresson on April 18, 1978 and she survives. Mr. Kehl retired as a self employed carpenter. Harold was a former member of the Belleville Quail Club. He enjoyed his weekends fishing on Lake Benton. Harold was a talented wood worker. In his younger years he enjoyed playing pool, golfing with friends and riding his Harley. Harold was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had a special place in his heart for each one of them. Surviving relatives include his wife, Janet Lynn Kehl, two children, Sarah Ann Johnson and husband Steve of Shiloh, IL, Brian Lawrence Kehl and wife Jamie of New Athens, IL; two brothers, Tony Kehl and wife Sandy of Destin, FL, Mike Kehl and wife Mary of Belleville, IL; six grandchildren, Sierra, Chance, Caleb, Patrick, Elsie, and Christian; sister-in-laws, Christine Kehl of O'Fallon, IL, Ella Kehl of Marine, IL and Vicki Schaefer and husband Steve of Belleville, IL; dear friend, Bobby Rust of Swansea, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Kehl was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, Bob Kehl, Bill Kehl, Ronnie Kehl and Patricia Bertlesman. Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Belleville, IL with Monsignor Bill McGee and Fr. Christopher Anyanwu officiating.
