Obituary

Harold Lampley - Benton, IL Harold Lampley, 90, of Benton, died at 6:30 a. m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at Herrin Hospital. Mr. Lampley was born on June 24, 1923 in Franklin Co., IL, the son of Asa and Neva (Absher) Lampley. He married the former Mable (Minor) Palmer on April 26, 1952 and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2003. He worked as a welder for Old Ben Coal Company and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of West City. Surviving relatives include three children, Danny Lampley and wife Judy, Benton, Rita and husband Greg Patton, West Frankfort, Eddie Lampley and wife Denise, Marion, two step-children, Charles Palmer and wife Barbara, Thompsonville, Donnie Palmer and wife Velma, Thompsonville, and, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, a special niece and nephew Shirley Miner, Rockford, IL, and Gary Miner, of California, and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Lampley was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two grandchildren, Charles Palmer, Jr. and Joseph Lampley, two brothers, Ernest and Kenneth Lampley, and one sister, Mavis Hungate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a. m. to Noon on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at Noon Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Plasters Grove Cemetery, Thompsonville with military honors performed by the Benton American Legion/V.F.W and the Marion National Guard Honor Squad.
