Harry Garavalia - Benton, IL Harry Garavalia, 94, of Benton died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Helia Healthcare in Benton. Mr. Garavalia was born on October 16, 1917 in Benton, IL the son of Peter Garavalia and Louise (DeMattei) Garavalia. He married the former Marjorie Mrogenski on January 29, 1949 and she preceded him in death on November 11, 1995. Harry was a retired from the State of Illinois Highway Department and the Franklin County Highway Department. He served his country during World War II as a U.S. Army veteran. Harry was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 280, both in Benton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Surviving relatives include two nephews, David Garavalia, Benton, Jack Wall, West Frankfort, a niece, Dorothy Boatright, St. Charles, MO and several other great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mr. Garavalia was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Harry Edward Garavalia, two brothers, Edward and Louie Garavalia, and two sisters, Mary Davis and Tressa Wall. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton with military honors performed by the Benton American Legion Post 280 and V.F.W. Post 5671 and the National Guard Honor Squad in Marion.
