Hazel M. Mumbower - Benton, IL Hazel M. Mumbower, 104, of Benton, IL, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL. She was born on September 25, 1907 in Benton, IL the daughter of Marshall Overturf and Lydia Elsie (Dillon) Overturf. She married James Harold Mumbower on December 2, 1931 and he preceded her in death on September 23, 1982. Hazel was from two of the pioneering families of Franklin County--the Dillons and Overturfs. She was a housewife and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later the First Baptist Church of West City. She graduated from Benton High School in 1928 and wrote several community commentary articles which were published in the Benton Evening News. Surviving relatives include nieces and nephews, Larry Overturf, Benton, IL, Allie Lee Dillon and Jerry Owens, both of Steger, IL, Sondra Gann and Janie Loeschner, both of Warrenton, MO, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was dearly loved by her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mumbower was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Clifford Overturf, and two sisters, Cecil Owens and Margaret Pinkham. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
