Horace D. King - Benton, IL Horace D. King, 88, of Benton, IL, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Helia Healthcare of Benton. Mr. King was born on January 5, 1926 in Robards, KY, the son of Denzil and Velma King. He married the former Bonnie June Day on September 14, 1949 and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2013. Horace served in the United States Army during WWII and retired as a truck driver from Rock Island Oil. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton, IL., Kiwanis Club, Benton, IL., V.F.W., Carmi, IL, and was a former Auxilliary Police Officer in Benton. Surviving relatives include his two daughters, Yolanda Hill, Benton, IL, Kim (Dennis) Followell, Benton, IL, three grandchildren, Nathan Hill, Benton, IL, Matthew (Davee) Followell, Benton, IL, Allyson (Ryan) Kathalynas, West Frankfort, IL, two great-grandchildren, Kyler Followell, Alivia Kathalynas, a brother and sister, Glen and Glenda, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. Graveside services with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, KY. Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton, IL is in charge of arrangements.
