Imogene Rea, 87, of Crete, IL, formerly of Benton and Akin died at 3:45 a.m. June 19, 2014 at St. James Manor Nursing Home, Crete, IL. Mrs. Rea was born August 30, 1926 in Akin, IL, the daughter of Ulis and Lena M. (Shaw) Harris. She married Andrew J. Rea on May 22, 1971, they enjoyed many trips together until his death June 30, 1998. She attended Bethel Grade School, Benton High School and received her Nurses training at South Eastern College in Harrisburg, IL. Mrs. Rea worked more than 25 years as a nurse the Franklin Hospital and doing private duty until her retirement in 1998. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Benton since 1970. She is survived by four nieces, Betty Jane Fowler, San Diego, CA, Marilyn May Monos, Cedar Lake, IN., Carolyn Cay Gensel, Hammond, IN, and Lena Lou Krause, San Diego, CA, two nephews, Alan T. Harris, Laguna Niguel, CA and Leroy and Joann Harris, Griffith, IN. Mrs. Rea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Truman and Basil Harris and nephew Vernon Dale Harris. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. following visitation at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton with Eddie Paul Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanual Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
