Iva Jean SummersAkin, IL Iva Jean Summers, 81, of Akin, IL, died at 7:46 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Franklin Hospital, Benton, IL. Mrs. Summers was born on March 27, 1931 in Benton, IL the daughter of Oness Pearl "Poss" Schram and Celia (McAdoo) Schram. She married Harold Dwight Summers on April 29, 1950 and he preceded her in death on April 20, 2011. Jean and her husband Harold owned Jeans Market in Akin from 1959 to 1995. She was the postmaster of the Akin post office for thirty-four years. Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting, farming, picking blackberries with Harold, being outside, pulling weeds and most of all, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Akin Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving relatives include three sons, Dwight Summers and wife Alice, Akin, IL, Kenneth Summers and wife Shelia, Akin, IL, Dennis Summers and wife Jessica, Mt. Vernon, IL, ten grandchildren, Heather Haynes and husband Charlie, Boonville, MO, Jason Summers and wife Andrea, Ridgefield, WA, Justin Summers, Akin, IL, Josh Trammel, Carbondale, IL, Kaleb and Casey Brown, both of Akin, IL, Selinda Johnson and husband Derek, Benton, IL, Shannon Bennett and husband Jason, Akin, IL, Celia and Braden Summers, Mt. Vernon, IL, nine great-grandchildren, Logan and Addison Haynes, Scott, Cassie, Katy, Charlie and Daniel Johnson, Tanner and Clayton Bennett, a sister, Joyce Ragan and husband Jim, Buckner, IL, two brothers, Jack Schram and wife Margaret, Macon, IL, Douglas Pete Schram and wife Beverly, LaBelle, FL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Elizabeth Hernandez and Ramona Lewis, and four brothers, Robert Jarvis Schram, Billy Floyd Schram, George Truman Schram and Paul Roger Schram. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Derrick Cairel officiating. Burial will be in the Brady Cemetery, Akin, IL.
