Obituary

Jackie "Jack" E. Crider, 71, of Benton, passed away at 9:30 p.m., on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, at the Franklin Hospital ER in Benton, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 18th, 1951, to Noble and Peggy (Carlock) Crider in Murphysboro, IL. Jack and parents moved to Effingham, IL. where he grew up and attended school for several years. Jack was a talented artist with a promising future until a unfortunate accident ended his career. In High School, Jack also loved the game of Football, as a Freshman he started for the Vasity Flaming Hearts, where he had a promising career until he and his family moved to Mt. Vernon, IL and the dream ended quickly his Senior year. Jack was a long time employee for Terry's Jaguar in Benton, IL. for many years, as a Machine Shop Specialist and then moved on to Walgreens Manufacturing where he was until retiring. On April 3rd, 1971, he married the love of his life Phyllis Jane Reed, and she preceded him in death on July 18th, 2020.

Jack was a loving father, grandfather and Big brother to his five siblings. He was an avid sports fan for the Benton HS Ranger Basketball team with season tickets in which he held for several years. Other sport favorites the SIU Carbondale Saluki's, St. Louis Cardinals, and for NFL football he was more a player fan than a team fan, "anywhere Brett Favre played he was a fan" Jack also loved watching his grandkids play different sports on the field or on the court. If he wasn't watching them play, he was listening on the radio or reading about their accomplishments in the newspaper, and he was a proud Grandpa smiling ear to ear.
Jack loved to fish and in his young adult years he fished Rend Lake and Lake Moses a lot of the time. He always said when he retired he was going to take his boat out on the water and fish, but sadly life got in the way.

Jack is survived by his loving children, Rhonda (Michael Matzker) K. Crider of Benton, Jacque (Dempsey Farr Jr.) R. Farr of Benton and Mark A. Crider of Marion; eight grandchildren, Torey (Raquel) Pulliam of Sesser, Ricky (Haley) Corn of Benton, Tarron (Makayla) Pulliam of Benton, Dustin Hayes of Benton, Brittany (Sean) Patterson of Hinesville, Georgia, Mady Wallace of Benton, Travis Richardson of Dix and Tabor Pulliam of Evansville, Indiana, nine great-grandchildren, Tayleigh Pulliam (Tay Tay), August Rich (AJ), Lucy Pulliam (Lucy Lou), Peyton Pulliam, Zaiah Pulliam (Z), Carson White, Easton Corn, Asher Corn, and Tyson Farr (Mr T). He will be missed by all. Jack was a gentle giant. He was strict yet kind. He didn't have a problem saying what was on his mind. There is no doubt he went to Heaven when he took his last breath. For we witnessed his arms stretched open wide and was looking up to Heaven to join his bride.
