Obituary

Kathy Jean (Burrus) Marshall, 63, of West Frankfort, IL, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Marshall was born on July 6, 1950, in Edina, MO, the daughter of Charles Richard and Norma (Trent) Burrus. Kathy Graduated 8th grade from the Bible Grove Grade School then attended and graduated Scotland County R-1 High School in 1968. In January 1983 she joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Bermuda until her discharge in 1988, this is where she met her future husband. On August 17, 1986, she married Terrence Anthony Marshall in St. Georges, Bermuda. Two children where born to this union. Sarah Leanne Marshall Goodis of Evans, GA, and Terrence Anthony Richard Marshall of West Frankfort, IL. In 1990, they moved to North Carolina for 2 ½ years, and returned to Bermuda in 1992 to work and be near family. At this time she received her Bermuda citizenship. In August of 2000, the family moved to the old family homestead near Bible Grove, MO. It was a wonderful place but the climate was too cold. In August of 2005, the family moved to West Frankfort, IL, because of the warmer climate and more Adventist Churches. Kathy loved ministering to the prisoner's in Big Muddy, Marion Federal and Pinckneyville Prisons. She also attended Ladies Jail Ministry monthly. Kathy played an active part of Gray Sheets Anonymous. In addition she was an avid member of Alcoholics Anonymous, in which she received her 30 year coin in May of 2014. Kathy was a member of the West Frankfort Seventh Day Adventist Church. She is preceded in death by her mother, father and a brother, Donald Richard Burrus. Surviving are her husband, two children, a sister, Karole Burrus Smith of Keokuk, IA, a brother, Daniel (Janet) Burrus of Fowler, IL, several nieces, Rebecca Minnick of Quincy, IL, Amy Ward of Boone, IA, Tina Burrus of Mt. Vernon, IA, and Libby Montenguise of Bettendorf, IA, a sister-in-law, Carol Burrus, aunts, uncles, cousins and several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Three Angels Broadcasting Network. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the Thompsonville Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Brian Hamilton officiating. Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of services. A graveside service with Military Rites will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2014, at Greensburg Cemetery in Knox County, MO with Pastor Charles Pitford officiating. Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in charge of services.
