Larry F. Connor, 71, of Benton formerly of Homewood, IL, left to be with the Lord October 27, 2015, at the Benton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 1, 1944, to Theodore "Ted" and Daisy (Sims) Connor in Owensboro, KY. Larry enjoyed traveling, riding his bike, and working extensively on the genealogy of his family. He was an avid movie fan and Civil War buff. Larry's greatest love, was Homewood-Flossmoor High School and his beloved Vikings. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Larry joined the staff at H-F, and remained there for 41 years. He was in charge of the school's Audio Visual and Media Department, a coach, and mentor to many people. His coworkers, described him as the crown jewel of H-F. During his years there, he coached both boy's and girl's basketball, softball, baseball, football, field hockey, intramural sports, and summer league baseball and softball. He also both refereed and umpired up to the NCAA level, for over 30 years. In 2006, he was given the Those Who Excel Award, by the Illinois State Board of Education, in recognition of his service to education . Larry retired in 2008, so that he could spend more time with family and visit the Blue Ridge Mountains, as often as he liked. He was affectionately known as Bubba or Uncle Bubba, Larry is survived by his brothers and sisters, Shirley Zamudio and husband Elias, Mike Connor, Steve Connor and wife Kendra, Mary Hargett; brother-in-law, Robin Wilson; nieces and nephews, Sharon Morales and husband Gilbert, Chris Cassara, Jamie Connor and wife Dewi, Nicole Bonan and husband Bill, Jacob Zamudio and wife Saphira, Jesse Zamudio, Trinity Allison and husband Jared, Ashley Connor and Josh Hargett; several great nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Faye Connor Wilson; and brother-in-law, Bill Hargett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's of Alcantra Catholic Church, 31 Church Street, Stanley, KY, with Fr. Jegin Puthenpurackal officiating. Burial will follow services at Scherer Cemetery, Stanley, KY. Memorials contributions may be made to Homewood-Flossmoor Athletic Department or the Alzheimer's Association.
