Lela AnthonyLogan, IL Lela (Hammers) Anthony, 83, of Logan, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:55 p. m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, IL. Mrs. Anthony was born on August 27, 1929 in Logan, IL the daughter of Earnest and Nellie (Irvin) Hammers. She married Daulton Anthony on December 6, 1949 and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1988. Lela was a nurse by profession but was also known for excellence in cooking and had published two cookbooks. She was also a prayer warrior for the kingdom of God and a member of the Logan Church of God. She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Rose Morehead and husband Joel, Logan, IL, Aerietta Anthony, Grayville, IL, one granddaughter, Destiny Nesler and husband Jamie, Grayville, IL, two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Brayden Nesler, both of Grayville, IL, one sister, Barbara Puckett, Christopher, IL, brother, Leon Hammers and wife Vivian, West Frankfort, IL, two brothers-in-law, Jack Fitzpatrick, Benton, IL, Romuald and Dorothy Anthony, Melrose Park, IL, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Hammers, LaSalle, IL, Joyce Anthony, Thompsonville, IL, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special neighbors, Denise, Kendra, and Sami. Mrs. Anthony was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandchild, Baby Morehead, brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Hattie Hammers, Elmer and Julie Hammers, Lindy and Levenia "Booty" Hammers, Jim Hammers, Leonard "Dean" Hammers, and Sonia Fitzpatrick, and several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p. m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Logan Church of God. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday at the church with Revs. David Mays and Don Stovall officiating. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
