Obituary

Loretta B. Barr, 88, of Benton, IL, died at 5:02 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Benton Health Care and Rehab. She was born on July 20, 1926, in Mayfield, IL, the daughter of Howard and Hazel (Johnson) Sullivan. She married the William W. Barr on June 20, 1942 and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Barr was a retired from Kroger as a head checker. She was a former member of the Young Republicans and participated in local events around Franklin County promoting the organization. In 1960 she was a Delegate for the Chicago Republican Convention. Loretta was in a bridge club and enjoyed playing with her friends. She was an avid golfer and was known for getting a hole in one during a golf tournament at the Benton Country Club Golf Corse and loved traveling. Loretta was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her father, Howard Sullivan, mother, Hazel (Johnson) Biggs, step-father, E.E. "Big Mike" Biggs, husband, William W. Barr, daughter-in-law, Tami Barr, brother, Howard Sullivan, brother-in-law, Jim Johnson and an infant sister. Surviving relatives include her son, Dr. William Michael Barr and wife Diann Woods-Parker-Barr of Grenada, MS, three grandchildren, William Michael James Barr and wife Ashley of Oxford, MS, Meri Elizabeth Barr-Gordon and husband James of Manhattan, NY and Tyler Sullivan Barr-Harris and Husband Rob of Clarksdale, MS, six great grandchildren, Bram Harris, Madison and Mia Tate Barr, Mary Oliver Gordon, Hannah and Allison Reynolds, two sisters Mary Lou Rice and husband George of Benton, IL and Harriet Johnson of Thompsonville, IL. A visitation will be held with Monday, December 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to Noon at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory, Benton, IL. A funeral service will be held at Noon, Monday, December 1, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Cecil Sullivan Officiating. Burial will follow services at the Brady Cemetery, Akin, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brady Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory.
