Lucille Craddock - Benton, IL Lucille Craddock, 91, of Benton, IL, died at 4:00 p. m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Helia Healthcare in Benton. Mrs. Craddock was born on January 15, 1922 in Pope County, IL, the daughter of Herschel Ellis and Bessie Edith (Klink) Ellis. She married Sam Craddock on May 6, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1978. She later married Dan Craddock in December 6, 1980 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1993. Lucille graduated from Herrin High School in 1939 and Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics. She later received her Masters degrees in Home Economics and Guidance from SIUC. She taught in Galesburg and Thompsonville for one year each and spent the rest of her teaching career in Benton. She also worked as a Home Advisor for the Franklin County Home Extension in the 1950s. Lucille was a member of the American Association of University Women, Illinois Education Association, National Education Association, Business and Professional Womens Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (voted Lady of the Year in 1980), Benton Public Library Board, Benton First United Methodist Church, and Lunch Bunch Tuesday Group. She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and quilting. Surviving relatives include one son, Bruce (Becky) Craddock, Marion, three grandchildren, Audrey Craddock, Gurnee, IL, Christopher Craddock, Granite City, IL, Kaitlyn Craddock, St. Louis, MO, one nephew, Stephen (Shannon) Payne, Grosse Ile, MI, and two great-nieces, Sophia and Eleanor Payne, both of Grosse Ile, MI and her best friend, Betty Frailey, Benton. Mrs. Craddock was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and one sister, Ann (Ellis) Payne. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p. m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 203 W. Church St., Benton, IL 62812.
