Mary Ellen Melvin - Benton, IL Mary Ellen Melvin, 87, of Benton, IL, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL. Mrs. Melvin was born on April 13, 1924 in Thompsonville, IL the daughter of Henry Adams and Bertha (Perryman) Adams. She married Lyndell Melvin on October 26, 1946 and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2010. Mary Ellen was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith. She was an avid Benton Ranger fan and enjoyed watching Benton Ranger basketball. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving relatives include three sons, Fred L. (Jolynn) Melvin, Jan A. (Melinda) Melvin, Roger B. (Rhonda) Melvin, all of Benton, IL, nine grandchildren, Christopher M. (Emma) Melvin, Belleville, IL, Patrick A. (Molly) Melvin, Chicago, IL, Meranda (Seth) Tate, Logan, IL, Mirya (Brandon) Savage, McLeansboro, IL, Angela Melvin, Benton, IL, Alisha (Dan) Cockrum, Marion, IL, Alex Melvin, Benton, IL, Jacob (Halee) Melvin, Creal Springs, IL, Courtney Melvin, Benton, IL, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Melvin was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lyndell, three brothers, Fred, Ralph, and Jack Adams, and one sister, Ruby Williams. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
