Norman Deon Kirk, 83, of Benton, passed away at 2:15 p.m., on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, IL, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 20, 1938, to Roy and Alma (Summers) Kirk in Logan, IL. On June 1, 1964, he married Carolyn Bradley, and she survives.

Norman was a United States Army Veteran.

He worked as a coal miner for Old Ben Coal Company and was a member of the Church of God in Logan. Norman enjoyed visiting with friends having coffee.

Norman is survived by his loving spouse of 56 years, Carolyn, his children, Ronnie (Dora) Ozbourn, Lynn Ann Rone, Tim (Renee) Ozbourn, Marty (Jill) Kirk and Kelly Kirk; son-in-law, Mike Peeler; eleven grandchildren, Jason, Dannielle, Samantha, Kristin, Joseph, Zachery, Shelby, Jacob, Abigail, Garrett and Autumn and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alma Kirk, daughter, Julie Peeler, son-in-law, John Rone, two brothers, Dale Dean Kirk and Gene Kirk and a sister, Ruby Elkins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Per Norman's wishes, cremation will take place. No services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the Marion VA Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
