Obituary

Rose Dallape Rice - Benton, IL Rose Dallape Rice, 93, of Benton, passed away at 6:03 a. m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013. She was born November 4, 1919 in Coello, Illinois the daughter of Ferdinando and Angelina Dallape. She married Robert G. "Bob" Rice on January 27, 1940 and he predeceased her on September 2, 2011. In 1950, Rose and her husband started Rice Produce, later Rice Foods, and continued in that business until retirement in 1985. She was an active member and supporter of North Benton Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She and Mr. Rice were ardent supporters of Benton and Rend Lake College. They were named Chamber of Commerce "Citizens of the Year" in 1993. Rose and Bob established the first endowment fund at Rend Lake College to guarantee a perpetual annual scholarship to assist Rend Lake College students. Rose is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Rice Glenn (Nealy), Mount Vernon, IL, daughter-in-law, Maureen German Rice, Benton, IL, five grandchildren, Michelle Glenn Mote (Keith) of Glen Ellyn, IL, Kristin Glenn Haycocks, NV, Cheryl Glenn (Weslyn), Charleston, SC, Elisabeth Rice Fung (Pete), Frisco, TX, and Daniel Rice (Rosslind), Carterville, IL, eleven great-grandchildren, Erica Mote, Erin Mote, Haydn Haycocks, Gus Haycocks, Jordan Fung, Jacob Fung, Caleb Fung, Devrah Fung, Braden Rice, Zachary Rice, and Nicholas Whitlock, and several nieces and nephews, including Jackie Galloway, Benton, IL. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at the North Benton Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Auxier officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p. m. until the beginning of the service at the church. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Rose was predeceased by her parents, husband Bob, son, Robert Douglas Rice, one brother, Frank Dallape (Dorothy), four sisters, Lena Bruno (Joe), Iva Sedlack (Albert), Emma Burke (Osie), and Betty Courter (Tom), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Wilma Rice and Bertis and Betty Rice Jones. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the North Benton Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church.
