Thurman E. "Jake" WoodWest City, IL Thurman E. "Jake" Wood, 70, of West City, IL, died at 7:59 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital, Evansville, IN.Mr. Wood was born on February 21, 1943 in Paris, IL the son of Michael and Waneta (Rickert) Wood. He married the former Loretta L. Schott on August 25, 1981 and she survives. Mr. Wood served in the United States Army. He retired from Rend Lake Consolidation Coal Company as a Roof Bolter. A member of the U.M.W.A., the Moose Lodge. Jake was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving relatives include his wife, three children, Shannon Wood, Chaffee, MO, Shawn Wood, Alabaster, AL, and Scott Wood, Charleston, IL, one grandchild, Capri Wood, a great grandchild, Coleton Smith, two brothers, Keith Wood, Irving, IL, and Mike Wood, LA, a step-sister, Maurica Sparks, Ramsey, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steve Wood, a brother, George Wood, and three sisters, Nancy Billingsley, Brenda Himes, and Faye Concord. A private service was conducted at the Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
