Obituary

Virginia Harmon - Benton, IL Virginia (Copley) Harmon passed away Friday November 19, 2010 at her home in Benton, IL. She was born October 30, 1919 in Wayland, KY., one of 10 children who have all preceded her in death.Jennie married Francis Harmon in 1938 in Wayland, KY. They had 3 children and in 1966, moved to Benton, IL. Jennie was the "matriarch" of the Copley-Harmon Family, involving herself in the interests of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She could always bring the "clan" together for the Family Reunion each year. Jennie was a member of the Methodist Church and very active in many Womens Clubs in Eastern Kentucky and in Benton, and often talked about her "Tuesday Bunch". She and Francis delivered "Meals on Wheels", and Jennie was enrolled in Rend Lake College in the water aerobics class until age 86. Jennie and Francis enjoyed their many years together, raising their children in Eastern Kentucky and in later years, traveling around the United States as well as abroad. Jennie especially enjoyed their Florida camping vacations and their getaways to Lake Barkley with close friends and family. Jennie was well read and would often give her review of the latest best seller. She was always ready to discuss politics, the latest movies, or current national events. Jennie was very proud to be an American and expressed that feeling on many occasions. Above all, Jennie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and the Matriarch of the Family. Jennie was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Howell, on September 16th, 2010. Jennie is survived by her husband, Francis. Son, Tom (Patti) Harmon of Evansville, Ind. and son, Frank (Jean Ann) Harmon of Barrington Hills, Illinois, Eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 203 West Church St., Benton, IL with Pastor Robert Shook officiating.
