Walter E. Trapper, 80, of Benton, passed away at 4:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 20, 1944, to Louis and Kathleen (McKinney) Trapper in Benton, IL. Before his retirement, Walter worked as a warehouseman for Coca-Cola. On September 4, 1970, he married the former Janet Walden, and she survives.

Walter was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed camping, relaxing and watching TV. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved watching their games.

Walter is survived by his loving spouse of 54 years,  Janet, his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Diana Trapper of Thompsonville, IL; his daughter, Michele Leigh of Wolcott, IN; his sister, Theresa Trapper and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Kathleen Trapper, sisters, Barbara Pierson and Angie Swigget and  brother, Charles Trapper.

Services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL, with Pastor Mike Mayberry officiating.

Memorials may be made in memory of Walter, to Residential Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
