Warren E. Petty, D.D.S., 80, of Benton, passed away at 11:02 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born on December 22, 1934 to Paul and Bernice (Hall) Petty in New Matamoras, OH. He was a graduate of Christopher High School and the University of Illinois, receiving his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Warren worked as a dentist in the United States Air Force for two years and then opened his dental practice in Benton, which he operated for 37 years. On February 20, 1960, he married Phyllis Orshak in Buckner, IL. He was a member of the Benton Church of Christ, American Dental Association, Benton Rotary Club, Rend Lake College Foundation Board, and was named Emeritus, and American Academy of Microendocrinology. He was also a member of the Flying Dental Association and performed missionary dentistry with that organization. Warren is survived by his loving spouse of 55 years, Phyllis; two daughters, Lea Ann (Randall) Stone of Vienna, VA, and Dr. Lynn (Dr. John) Parker of Louisville, KY; three granddaughters, Anna Stone, Catherine Stone, and Taylor Parker; grandson, Theodore Schoneman; and sister, Frances Palmer of Christopher, IL; two brothers-in-law, George Orshak, Jr. and Cecil Browning; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, with Ronald Griffin and Steve Reeves officiating. Burial will follow services at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL. Warren was a champion of education and donated time and resources to that cause. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rend Lake College Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
