Wayne L. King - Benton, IL Wayne L. King, 66, of Benton, IL, died at 8:45 a. m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. King was born on November 21, 1946 in Benton, IL the son of Eugene Lloyd King and Julia (Lowery) King. He married the former Sharon Ponder on Sept. 2, 1994 and she survives. He was a retired coal miner and a U.S Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. Wayne was a member of the Benton American Legion Post 280 and V.F.W. Post 2871, Benton Eagles, and American Legion Riders. He enjoyed flying powered parachutes, camping, cycling, guns, shopping and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving relatives include his wife, Sharon King, Benton, IL, five children, Mike (Julie) King, Holly Springs, NC, David King and fiance Connie Green, Louisburg, NC, Casey (Barbara) King, Wake Forest, NC, Sherri (Tim) Jearlds, Marion, IL, Shannon (Amy) Jones, Carterville, IL, seven grandchildren, Avery (Jessica) Younger, Middlesex, NC, Andrea (Clayton) Roland, both of Johnston City, IL, Brittany Jearlds, Marion, IL, Bradley King, Wake Forest, NC, Adreanna King, Wake Forest, NC, Emma and Lucas Jones, both of Carterville, IL, two great-grandchildren, Marlie and Malakai Roland, both of Johnston City, IL, a sister-in-law, Cyrilene Hicks, Christopher, IL, two brothers-in-law, Curtis (Betty) Ponder, Cranston, RI, Mike (Judy) McClendon, Poplar Bluff, MO, and an aunt, Mary Ann Townsend Wall, Christopher, IL. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Blanche Lowery, and an aunt, Jennette Stevens. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p. m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Jearlds officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton with military honors performed by the Benton American Legion/V.F.W and the Marion National Guard Honor Squad.
